Vintage Quilt Revival Blocks Week 4

Week 4 : Moving right along.  The top block  is the Riviera block. I have had the floral fabric I used in the middle and the border for so long and every time I went through my stash I thought to myself, why do I have this fabric? I think I have always liked it because of its bold colorful busy- ness. I could never find anything to go with it so I have had it for a long long time. I found the perfect fit with this block and am delighted with the outcome.
The bottom block is the Dakota Star. This one is made with a vintage fabric. I love this block and wouldn't mind making a whole quilt of this one.

Vintage Quilt Revival Blocks 2

Week 2 just flew by and while I got my blocks done on time I didn't get this post up so for week 2
I made  the Classic diamond panes block (red and yellow) and the Classic mosaic no.19 block (pinks). I enjoyed making them both.

Vintage Revival Quilt Blocks

I started my first sew along of the year with Sukie. We are sewing the blocks from the Vintage Revival  Quilt book. We are sewing 2 blocks a week for 10 weeks and then putting the blocks together to make a quilt. Here are my 1st two blocks. The top purple block is the classic tea leaf block and the bottom green one is the the classic double Z block. My fabric choices are from my scrap basket paired up with Kona white. I have decided that I have more scraps than I will ever use so I am on a mission to use them and this is the perfect project. I have been making several projects with the never ending scrap basket and I will post again shortly with the finished projects.

Zakka Style Week 10 : Bloom Time Quilt

Quilt no. 2 in the sew along. Next time I do a sew along I hope that I choose a different vacation week. Making 2 quilts and going out to Santa Fe, New Mexico (DRIVING over fourteen hundred miles each way)  made me really manage my time. I admit I worked ahead but I still had quite a bit to do when I returned home. Now it is finally done and I am pleased by the results. This quilt will be a  wedding gift for a very sweet couple.
Life is good and the rest of the sew along should go smoothly.
I am so excited by next weeks project and I have the perfect place to hang it so everyone can get their mail when they walk in the door.

Orbit Quilt Along
My newest sewing challenge is the Orbit Quilt Along. I am so excited because I can use my scraps on this one. This is a 6 week sew along hosted by Lindsey @ LRStitched. Once the quilt is completed it will be given to a good friend of mine. She is a "shut in" and with the bright colors I think it will be cheery for her. This week I will be busy cutting and sorting. It took me a while but I laid it all out and have it pinned. This is how I did my organizing. There are 9 rows in this quilt and I have them sorted by row and numbered. This should be pretty easy to put together, one could hope, right?

Zakka Style Sew Along weeks 6 thru 10

Well, well, well, imagine that.
I got side tracked and forgot to  make another blog post .
Week 6 of the Zakka Sew-A-Long was these tiny quilt magnets. I am you telling you what, this project was difficult. I am not really great with tiny sewing projects, so  I was very happy when it was done.
Week 7 was a mug rug. I have to say I  never even  heard of a mug rug, but I own one now. I can use it when I drink my tea. :)
Week 8 was the block quilt. Surprisingly I have never made a quilt before.  I found it to be fun and will probably catch the quilting bug sooner than later. lol
Week 9 was the Stem messenger bag. I have made many messenger bags in my lifetime so I didn't find this to be a challenge, but I did like the pattern and have made a few more as gifts.
Week 10 was this great zipper organizer wallet type thing. I like everything about it except actually making it, HA. There were so many steps to the pattern and it also had some hand sewing involved.  As much as I complained about it, I have made 5 of them. And  before the year is over, probably more to come. :)
Well that's it for this blog post. The next 5 I promise to post sooner than the last time.

My daughter is so awesome !
Not only is she creative and talented, she is caring and thoughtful as well. Since she was a small child she has made handmade gifts and cards for everyone on every occasion. Whenever there is a birthday, anniversary, holiday or other occasion, she gets to work creating something special.
For Mothers Day she made me this wonderful quilt (and a handmade card). This is one of my favorite presents ever. She took my scrap fabrics , pieced them together and spent hours in front of the sewing machine assembling them.
She did a fantastic job creating a present that is personal, practical, colorful and fun . I will cherish it forever :o)
